Churches, community groups, city workers and businesses pitched in for the 2nd Annual Day of Service in Miramar, Florida, earlier this month.
South Florida Church public affairs coordinating council director Jennifer Samuels said that in addition to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more than 160 others participated.
“We had city officials, local Walmart employees, New Hope church, Keys to Life church, ChristWay Baptist, Miramar United Methodist, Miramar Christian Center, Miramar Fire and Police and the Miramar High School varsity football team and girl's flag football team,” said Samuels.

The project was designed to clean up a neighborhood park surrounded by homes. “It was more than beautifying a park,” explained Samuels. “It was about bringing the community, churches and organizations together to serve with one heart and purpose.”
As volunteers were leaving the park a sky writer was writing in the sky “U + God = Happiness.”

Service projects like this one in Florida are taking place throughout the world often. Latter-day Saints join with their neighbors of other faiths to clean and beautify their communities. The Church’s Helping Handsprogram started more than 10 years ago as a way for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to reach out to others in a spirit of friendship and service.
