Leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ visit the Pérez Scremini Foundation in Montevideo

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated an ultrasound machine and other medical supplies to the Pérez Scremini Foundation in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Andrea Muñoz Spannaus, Second Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, and Amy Wright, First Counselor in the Primary General Presidency, were present during the formal donation of the equipment. These medical supplies will improve early diagnosis and treatment precision for the children receiving cancer care from the Pérez Scremini Foundation.

The donation ceremony was led by Elder Eduardo Gavarret of the South America South Area Presidency, and Dr. Ney Castillo, Pérez Scremini’'s founder and medical advisor.

During their visit, Sisters Spannaus and Wright expressed their admiration for the work done by the Pérez Scremini Foundation. It is Uruguay’s leading organization for the treatment and cure of childhood cancer.

Church leaders toured various medical care and oncology treatment areas and learned about the diagnostic process and the therapies applied to young patients.

Dr. Ney Castillo expressed deep gratitude for the Church’s contribution. He said the equipment will enable faster and more accurate diagnoses, thus improving care and increasing the chances of successful treatments.
