In News Interview, Primary Leaders Reflect on Five Years of Service

The three women who have led the Primary children for the past five years reflected on their service in a recent interview with the Deseret News. They were called in April 2010 by the First Presidency. Sister Rosemary M. Wixom, general president of the Primary; Sister Jean A. Stevens, first counselor in the general Primary presidency; and Sister Cheryl A. Esplin, second counselor in the general Primary presidency, are responsible for the Church’s 1.1 million children between the ages of 3 and 11 in thousands of congregations around the world. They have traveled the world meeting thousands of those boys and girls.

The presidency says one of the biggest changes that has affected the Primary girls ages 8 and older during their tenure is the opportunity they have to attend the general women’s session with their mothers and other female family members.

"Our greatest concern is that children know who they are and that they are loved," Sister Wixom told reporters when she was called as the general president. That has not changed in the past five years.
