Peruvian Saints Host Historic Interfaith Gathering during Holy Week

In a powerful demonstration of unity amid national challenges, representatives from 11 faiths convened at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Isidro, Peru, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, for the first-ever interfaith event, “Religious Traditions of Easter.”

The Holy Week gathering provided a unique opportunity for each community to share the symbolic elements and spiritual significance of their respective celebrations, ranging from Christian Easter observances to Jewish Passover and Bahá’í Ridván traditions.

The event was a beacon of hope and a testament to the possibility of harmonious living and strengthened interfaith relations at a time when Peru faces a crisis of violence and instability.

Religious leaders present emphasized the crucial role of interfaith dialogue in fostering a more peaceful and inclusive society, sharing messages of unity and hope for the nation. Participating faiths were the Lutheran Church, the Bahá’í community, the Evangelical Presbyterian and Reformed Church, the Islamic Association, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Catholic Church, Brahma Kumaris, the Union of Evangelical Christian Churches, the Jewish Association, the Methodist Church, and the Anglican Church.

Monsignor Salvador Piñeiro, president of the Interreligious Council of Peru, closed the event with a prerecorded message emphasizing religious unity.

“We believers are united, and for more than three decades we have gathered to proclaim our faith and build a Peru of brothers,” he said.
