The uphill climb Chantal faced upon relocating to America was steep, as it is for any refugee. From learning a new language to acclimating to a new culture, she wouldn't be able to do it alone.
Fortunately, she had mentors in her community who helped her adjust to new surroundings and taught her some of contemporary American life's basic skills that many of us hardly give a thought to, such as how to bake a cake.
The video below, which is part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ “Give Back” series, describes Chantal's story. This and other videos came about after the First Presidency issued letters in October 2015 and March 2016 encouraging members to help refugees.
In the coming weeks, we will continue to share examples of how Latter-day Saints are easing refugees’ burdens.
